How does validation works?
This certificate is available only to registered companies and cannot be issued to privates. Issuance typically happens within the day and doesn’t require a manual callback performed by the Certificate Authority. In fact, the Certificate Authority’s callback is automated and can be initiated by you at anytime.
If you are buying this certificate for a webshop or e-commerce, we recommend you having a look at Extended Validation certificates since these represent a better suite for both your business and your (potential) customers.
Once your order has been placed and approved, you will need to configure some administrative details of the certificate (i.e. administrative and technical contact details), as well as the domain name that you wish to secure and the domain validation method.
STEP 1:
Validation via email address (only 1 of these 3 is required)
In order to validate the ownership of your domain, you may choose one of the following email addresses that the Certificate Authority will use to send a verification link to. You will later need to confirm the email address by clicking on the verification link and typing a special code provided in the same email.
List of accepted email addresses @ the domain for which the certificate is being applied:
admin@
administrator@
postmaster@
hostmaster@
webmaster@
Additionally, you may specify any email address that our systems are able to get from a WHOIS request for the domain you are applying.
Validation via HTTP/HTTPS (only 1 of these 3 is required)
Right after the configuration of your certificate, we will provide you a special file that you will need to place in the root directory of your domain. Such file should be served via HTTP or HTTPS by a webserver and must be available on the Internet publicly.
For instance, assuming the validation file is named 87F494598E849CDBD1314C8239B5C9A1.txt and your domain is www.example.com, you will need to place such file at the address:
http://www.example.com/87F494598E849CDBD1314C8239B5C9A1.txt
Validation via DNS (only 1 of these 3 is required)
If you can’t proceed with validation via email address or via HTTP/HTTPS, your last choice is to opt for DNS validation.
We will provide you a specific DNS entry (CNAME) to add to your domain DNS records. Assuming your domain is www.example.com, the DNS record to add may look like the following:
17603DF29491FC704B3CCF87AF6453C2.example.com. CNAME 2a0e471680b2cf83405781ecc7f16b37b5bd57d3.comodoca.com
STEP2:
Company’s documents
For most of the companies, the Certificate Authority will send you a link on your email address where you are required to fill in all Company Details and confirm the request for an EV Certificate. In some cases you may be required to provide a copy of the incorporation document (Chamber of Commerce) in order to speed up the process. In such events, our staff will promptly contact you in order to not slow down the whole process. Additionally, should you already have a copy of such document at hand, you may forward it upfront so we will take care of it and preventively forward it to the Certificate Authority.
STEP 3:
Callback procedure
Once you have completed the Domain Validation procedure above, it will be time to verify your company registered phone number.
The Certificate Authority will call only the phone number registered in Governmental Trusted Databases, such as Duns And Bradstreet or Hoovers.
Shall your phone number not be available in such directories, you won’t be able to verify your Company’s phone number. In these cases, we urge you to contact us right after purchasing the Certificate so we may instruct you how to quickly add your phone number to the database.
Provided your phone number is present in the database, a qualified agent of the Certificate Authority will call you to confirm you are the requester of Certificate and that you belong to the Company or represent it.
Once this procedure is completed your certificate will be issued within 1 business day.
